Sixteen year old all-rounder, Ruhan Swar, at the conclusion of the Tri-State tour of Guyana, donated a substantial amount of cricket gear to the Transport Sports Club.
Swar, in a short comment on the sidelines of the two-day match at Demerara Cricket Club Saturday, said he was amazed by the talent of the young Guyanese batsmen after seeing them in Trinidad and Tobago a few years ago.
He said that it was his dream to experience first-hand what it was like to play locally and the quality of players on offer here adding that it was only natural for him to accept the invitation issued by head coach, Linden Fraser.
The right-hander made the most of his trip with three consecutive half-centuries.
“I decided I had a lot of stuff and my friends after finding out what I was doing decided to pitch in as well because we want to improve the game of the children down here,” Swar said.
Among the items donated were clothing, boots, bats, gloves, pads and helmets.
Swar, a crafty seamer, was born in California and began playing the game at the age of five before going on tour to Trinidad where he fell in love with the Caribbean.
Transport’s Shaun Massiah thanked Swar for his contribution and said that the club has one of the most vibrant youth components in the Georgetown Cricket Association.
He said that the equipment would be utilized efficiently and effectively in order to develop the young talent.
