A commanding double century from Romeo Deonarian handed 4R Lions a massive 495-run win over GNIC Under-19 yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club ground.
Playing in the Georgetown Cricket Association Ramchand Auto Spares/Survival Group of Companies/ Trophy Stall U-19 tournament, Lions won the toss and took first strike, piling up a mammoth 526 for seven from their allotted overs. GNIC were then rolled over for a paltry 31 in 12.1 overs.
Deonarain showed he was a class above the rest, hitting 38 fours and a six during his 154-ball 218.
The left-handed opener shared a 366-run partnership for the second-wicket with Rashad Gafoor who chalked up 170 from just 104 balls. Gafoor’s innings was highlighted by 18 fours and 10 sixes.
Renaldo Scouten chipped in with a 13-ball 41, laced with eight fours and a six before he was run out.
Extras accounted for 44 while Rampertab Ramnauth made 22 from 16 balls.
Zahid Mohammed and Roupie Rajaram picked up two wickets each while Solomon Cameron and Ryan Husain took one wicket a piece.
In GNIC’s chase, nine batsmen failed to score and only Darius Singh (10) and Cameron (5) got off the mark.
Leg spinner, Sanjay Algoo was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-17 from five overs. He was supported by Natron Gill who bagged 4-7.
