Two weeks after a wanted bulletin was issued for him in relation to the murder of a miner, 19-year-old Joshua Williams was on Wednesday found hiding in his father’s Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway home.
The police in a press release said that Commander of Region 4B, Denis Griffith confirmed that ranks acting on information received went to Williams’s father’s home, where he was found hiding behind a chair in the living room.
Williams was arrested around 16.45hrs.
His 41-year-old father, a taxi driver was also taken into custody for allegedly harbouring a wanted fugitive, the police said.
Williams is accused of murdering Joseph Davis, a 41-year-old miner of Swan Village, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
Davis succumbed to his injuries on March 27th at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
It was not until a wanted bulletin was issued for Williams on April 8th that the police announced Davis’ killing.
After the bulletin was issued, several media houses requested information relating to the killing of Davis. However, the requests were ignored by Deputy Director of the GPF’s Corporate Communications Unit Stan Gouveia, who had issued the wanted bulletin on behalf of the force.
However, after a follow up request by a member of the media, Director of the force’s Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar provided a response but it did not include any information on how the killing occurred.
He said that based on information provided to him, ranks of the Timehri Police Station went to the GPH on three occasions after the incident to interview Davis and obtain a statement but they were unable to do so.
Davis was hospitalised since March 19th.
Davis, Ramotar said, was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit following a surgery. “He was not in a position to make a statement,” Ramotar said.
He noted that around 09.20hrs on March 27, a rank returned to the hospital to interview Davis and was informed by a nurse that Davis succumbed earlier that day while receiving treatment.
