The Guyana National Cadet Corps (GNCC) recently concluded a four-day Annual Staff Conference and Retreat at the Aurora Secondary School, Essequibo Coast, a post on the Guyana Defence Force Facebook page said.
The event was held from April 10, 2022, to April 13, 2022 and saw participation from 75 Instructors from across eleven Cadet Battalions, representing 22 schools throughout Guyana.
The theme for this year’s conference, “Enhancing National Security through Capacity Building, Empowering our Youths and Strengthening Community Relations”, highlighted the GNCC’s principal goals and provided the forum for the instructors to review the work and effort of each cadre. Instructors’ successes, strategies, best practices, and challenges faced during their stewardship over the past year were highlighted during this conference.
Commandant of the Guyana National Reserve, Colonel Trevor Bowman delivered the opening remarks. Also in attendance were Officer Commanding Third Infantry Bn, Major Dominic Shepherd, Officer Commanding 253 Company, Captain Hubern Collins, Welfare Officers Terrence Farley and Joveta Joseph, and the Head Teachers of Aurora Secondary, Hope Secondary, and West Demerara Secondary Schools.
