Following an absence of more than a year, the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Championship resumes with the Linden edition, which is scheduled to kick-off tomorrow at the Christianburg hardcourt, Linden.
Sixteen teams are set to compete in the direct elimination tournament, which is scheduled to last for four nights. In the opening encounter, Swag Entertainment will oppose Midas from 19:00hrs, while the second fixture will pit Silver Bullets against Trendsetters from 19:30hrs. In the third encounter, Coomacka will engage Darkside at 20:00hrs, with the final fixture pitting Goodfellas against Germans from 20:30hrs.
The event will resume on Thursday April 28 at the Silver-City hardcourt. Whap-Whap will match skills with Back Street Ballers from 19:00hrs, whilst Amazings will lock horns with Universal Ballers from 19:30hrs. In the final two matches, DC Ballers will do battle with Spike Land from 20:00hrs, and High Rollers will tackle Hillside Ballers at 20:30hrs.
The other match dates are: April 30, and May 7.
Rawle Gittens, coordinator of the tournament, noted, “So far after a long break, the word on the street is that everyone is anxious, everyone is asking about it. So right now the public is anxious to come out and watch the event.”
He added, “They are some new players who have become eligible to play so we expect a stiff contest for the tournament. We have gotten the green light for the event and want everyone to come out and witness good, clean fun on Saturday. It will be running for four nights, and will finish on the 7th of May. We are outside back again and everything is in place for the tournament.”
