Two men, including a worker, were yesterday charged with stealing over $2.3 million from an online shopping and shipping business.

Helton King, of Friend-ship, East Bank Demerara, and Dion Chan, of Agri-cola, also on the East Bank, were jointly charged at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Courts.

They were arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and denied that on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 100-101 Regent Street, Georgetown, they broke and entered the offices of the eZone online shopping and shipping company and stole a sum of $2,375,740, which was the property of Paul Pantin.

King worked at the business, while Chan is a taxi driver.

The police say that at about 17:30 hrs on Tues-day, King and Chan were recorded by the business’ CCTV cameras entering the offices. The business then closed, leaving the two men inside.

At about 21:30 hrs, the two men were seen again on CCTV recordings exiting the offices via the roof with a bulky plastic bag, and entering a white Fielder Wagon bearing registration number HC 3012.

The car was driven by the second accused.

The next morning, King allegedly attempted to report sick but he was arrested. Based on the information the police received from King, Chan was then arrested.

King and Chan were released on $300,000 bail each, with the condition that they report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) every Monday and lodge their passport until the outcome of their trial.

The men are expected to make their next court appearance on May 27.
