The Guyana Cricket Board/Dave’s West Indian Imports U15 Inter-County tournament got underway yesterday with Berbice and Demerara securing early wins.
Playing at the Imam Bacchus Ground, Affiance, Essequibo Coast, Demerara, sent in posted 126 for seven from their allotted 30 overs.
After another rain interval, Essequibo’s innings were reduced to 22 overs but the hosts were routed for 45 in 21.5 overs, effectively handing Demerara a 76-run win via the Duckworth-Lewis and Stern Method.
Demerara’s innings saw extras contributing 31 runs while Dhanesh Persaud top scored with 29 from 39 balls. He struck three boundaries and shared a 48-run sixth-wicket partnership with Mikel Sharma who made 27 from 51 runs. Shane Prince and Emmanuel Lewis struck cameos of 14 not out and 13 respectively.
Earo Benjamin and Christopher Williams picked up three wickets each for 19 and 20 runs respectively.
Essequibo’s innings was dismantled by Darwin LaRose who returned 5-19. He was supported by captain, Dave Mohabir and Prince with two wickets each.
Rakesh Kellawan was the only batsman to reach double figures with 10 not out while extras tallied 20.
Over at the No. 69 Vikings Ground, Upper Corentyne, Berbice brushed aside Rising Stars Select Under-15 by 146 runs. Rising Stars Select Under-15 won the toss and inserted Berbice who piled up 196 for nine from their allotted 48 overs. Rising Stars Select Under-15 in return were bowled out for 50 in 18.4 overs.
Berbice captain, Romario Ramdeholl top scored with 44 from 86 balls while hitting three boundaries. Ramdeholl added 44 for the second wicket with Razam Koober (25) and 42 for the third wicket with Adrian Hetmyer who made 31 before being run out.
Extras accounted for 38 while cameos also came from Ravin Boodwah (22), Enriquie Mickle (15) and Sohail Mohammed (13). Nicholas Hall was the pick of the bowlers with 3-24 while Reshan Sakrulla took 2-38.
No batsman from Rising Stars Select Under-15 scored more than five runs and extras chalked up 36. Arif Khan bagged 4-8 with support from Hetmyer (2-3), Mickle (2-14) and Dave Prettipaul (1-21).
The contest will continue Monday with Demerara and Berbice clashing at Albion and Rising Stars and Essequibo battling at Everest.
