An Abram Zuil man, who was wanted for allegedly causing the death of a Courts branch manager in Essequibo, was apprehended on Friday after years of evading police.
Nicklous Singh, 26, of Abram Zuil, Region Two, was arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by Essequibo police.
Singh was wanted for causing the death of Chandanie Das by dangerous driving.
The accident occurred around 22:30 hrs on August 12, 2014 on the Annandale Public Road. Das, of La Union, had been the Manager of the Courts branch at Richmond.
Singh was unlicensed at the time and had collided with the woman’s car.
Before the charge was laid against the accused, a file was prepared in the matter and was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, which ordered that an inquest be conducted into how Das met her death.
The inquest was held and the jurors subsequently found that Singh was criminally responsible for causing the death of Das.
The charge was then read at the Suddie Magis-trate’s Court on November 19, 2015, but Singh fled the country.
The matter was adjourned several times and the accused was later discharged due to the fact that he fled the jurisdiction.
Singh is expected to be charged at Charity Magis-trate’s Court this week.
Upon hearing the news of the man’s arrest, the relatives of Das commended the efforts of police.
