A 20-year-old labourer was yesterday taken into police custody after he was allegedly found in possession of 8.9 pounds of cannabis at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
He has since implicated another individual, who was also arrested and is presently in custody.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a press release yesterday said that ranks, acting on information received, conducted an operation between 07:30h and 08:15h at Last Street, Herstelling, EBD.
During the operation, a resident of Farm, EBD, was seen crossing the Farm Bridge and entering Last Street, Herstelling. He had a bulky multi-coloured hand bag in his hands, the police said.
The suspect was approached by a rank and a search conducted on the bag unearthed four bulky brown scotch-taped parcels.
The parcels, which were opened in his presence, contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, the police added.
The suspect was told of the allegation was arrested.
The suspected cannabis was later weighed in his presence and it amounted to 8.9 pounds.
