The fourth Magnum Independence Futsal Cup was officially launched yesterday at the Fireside ‘Grill n Chill’ restaurant on Garnett Street, with the first round of fixtures set to commence today at the National Park tarmac, Thomas Lands.
Tournament Co-Organizer Edison Jefford during the feature address thanked all the stakeholders for their input in making the tournament a reality, adding that all systems are in place for the staging of the prestigious event.
According to Jefford, the venture is an established brand and that the organizers are determined to ensure the continuity of the tournament, adding overwhelming support from the teams and the public has been forthcoming, which vindicates their decision to stage the event.
He disclosed that the staging of the event in an outdoor setting was precipitated by the unavailability of the traditional indoor facilities, noting that the change of scenery and playing area, will certainly add a different dynamic, and dimension to the championship.
Meanwhile, Magnum Brand Coordinator Jamal Baird, affirmed the brand’s continued commitment to the tournament, as it forms part of its corporate social responsibility, adding that the competition has blossomed into a grassroots phenomenon which the brand intends to continue to support for the foreseeable future.
Similarly, Triston Freeman, Lucozade Brand Coordinator disclosed that the brand utilizes the tournament as a platform to give back to the community, adding that support for such initiatives will always be at the forefront of the product’s vision.
The event will commence at 19:00hrs, with Showstoppers opposing Belfield, while the second encounter will pit Road Warriors against Beterverwagting (BV) at 19:30hrs. In the third clash, East Front Road will oppose Avocado Ballers at 20:00hrs, while Mocha battles Sophia from 20:30hrs.
The fifth contest pits Back Circle against Melanie at 21:00hrs, while Sparta Boss engages Alexander Village from 21:30hrs, and Gold is Money battles Albouystown at 22:00hrs. Action in the event resumes on Wednesday at the same location.
North East La Penitence opposes Ansa McAl at 19:00hrs, with Alexander Village matching skills with Avocado Ballers from 19:30hrs, and Tiger Bay taking aim at Stabroek Ballers from 20:00hrs.
In the fourth clash, Leopold Street faces-off with Festival City from 20:30hrs, while Future Stars battle Vengy at 21:00hrs, and Gold is Money lock horns with BV from 21:30hrs. In the final match at 22:00hrs, defending champion Bent Street takes centre stage against Agricola.
Winner of the event will pocket $700,000, and the championship trophy, with the runner-up walking away with $400,000 and the corresponding accolade. On the other hand, the third and fourth place finishers will pocket $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
