Defending champion Swag Entertainment, former two-time winner Bullets, Germans, and Darkside secured their place in the quarterfinal round when the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Linden edition got underway Saturday at the Christianburg Hard-court.
Swag Entertainment dismantled Midas 11-0 in the opening match of the elimination tournament. Kendolph Lewis registered a helmet trick in the seventh, 11th and [Guinness Goal (GG) , a goal scored in the final three minutes counts as two) 28th minute. Colwyn Drakes provided support with a hat-trick in the fifth and 29th minute (GG), while Renee Chester fashioned a double in the 16th and 21st minute. Chipping in with goals in the ninth and 17th minute respectively were Deon Charter and Jermaine Grandison.
Meanwhile, Bullets squeaked past Trend Setters 3-2. The trident of Donovan Francis, Darrel George and Clifton Halley netted in the ninth, 14th and 26th minute respectively. The duo of Keevin Gittens and Carlon Hinds found the back of the net in the fourth and 18th minute correspondingly for the losers.
Similarly, Darkside came from behind to defeat Coomacka 2-1. Keon Bristol and Kerwin Bethune recorded conversions in the 14th and 19th minute respectively. On target in the loss was Jamal White in the sixth minute.
Germans battled past High Rollers 2-0 with Tyriq McAllister netting a (GG) in the 18th minute. The tournament continues on Thursday at the Silvercity Hardcourt with another four matches.
