Residents of Kaibarupai, Region Eight will soon be able to enjoy first-time access to potable water through a new Water Supply System.
Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal; Guy-ana Water Incorporated (GWI) Director of Hinter-land Services, Ramchand Jailal and a team visited the ongoing project on Sunday, a release from the Central Housing and Planning Authority said.
Close to 500 villagers reside in the area and practice rain water harvesting to receive water, the release said.
At least 70% of the community, which lies on the right side of the creek will have first time access to water at the service connection level. The right side accommodates the health post, primary and nursery school and village office. The Minister has committed to expanding the system.
By May 1, 2022 the Kaibarupai Water Supply System will be fully operational, the release said.
The project is being executed by R. Kissoon Contracting Services at a cost of some $34.6 million.
