An impressive spell of fast bowling from Ariel Tilku ensured La Bonne Intention Cricket Club continued their winning ways with a 10-wicket win over Industry in the East Coast Cricket Board/ Navin Hanso 50-over first-division tournament on Sunday.
Playing at LBI, Industry won the toss and opted to take first strike as rain reduced the match to 42 overs. Nevertheless, Industry were bundled out for 67 in 29 overs while LBI responded with 72 without loss from nine overs.
Tilku rocked the top order early on and reduced them to 27 for four by the 12th over as he ended with 4-22. He was supported by off-spinners, Ameer Mohammed who ended with 3-15 and Ricardo Dowlataram with 2-6.
Terrence King was the only batsman to reach double figures, chalking up 11 before being bowled by Dowlataram.
In reply, former national under-19 opener, Alex Algoo clubbed three sixes and a four on his way to 37 not out while on the other end, his opening partner and national wicket keeper, Kemol Savory stroked one boundary during his unbeaten 21.
Tilku explained it was a good toss to lose since the wicket had moisture in it and made batting a bit tougher in the early stages of the game so his plan was to attacking the stumps and try to get the batsman to play at every delivery.
“Bowling straight on the stumps and full inviting the batsmen to drive,” was key, Tilku reasoned as he reflected that this caused Ajay Gainda to pop a straight back catch to him and then allowed Anthony Khan to attempt a drive only to be caught by Savory in first slip.
