A 34-year-old aircraft mechanic and a 54-year-old business manager were Monday night robbed by two persons, one of whom was armed with a handgun. A suspect has since been arrested.
The incident which occurred at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, saw the aircraft mechanic being robbed of an iPhone 7 valued $65,000 and a business manager of a Galaxy A2 cellphone valued $42,000.
According to the police report, at 8:50 pm Monday night, the mechanic was visiting his girlfriend’s residence on Hadfield Street and had parked his car outside.
While conversing with his girlfriend in the car, he saw the business manager, whom he knew, proceeding along Hadfield Street on his motorcycle.
The manager stopped his motorcycle in front of the residence during which time the mechanic observed the two suspects park their motorcycle some distance ahead of his car, before approaching on foot.
One of the suspects who was armed with a handgun then relieved the manager of his phone. The mechanic then disembarked his car in a bid to assist the manager which resulted in the armed suspect pointing the weapon at him then pushing him to the ground while his accomplice relieved him of his phone also.
The suspects then ran to their motorcycle and rode away.
Following the incident, the mechanic tracked his phone to a house in James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, where a search was carried out on the premises by the police but the phone was not found.
Police however, arrested an 18-year-old man residing at the address. He is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
