Top local seed, Narayan Ramdhani and Trinidad’s Nicholas Bonkowsky on Thursday advanced to the quarter final of the Men’s Doubles in the XXV Pan American Individual Badminton Championship in El Salvador.
This continental championship is promoted annually, and the events include Men´s Singles and Doubles, Women´s Singles and Doubles and Mixed Doubles. World Ranking points will be awarded as this tournament is a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Grade Two, Level Six event.
The duo defeated El Salvador’s Victor Garcia and Carlos Rodrigues 21-16 and 21-18 to book their place in the quarter finals but were defeated by Mexico’s Job Castillo and Luis Armando Montoya Navarro 21-14, 21-7.
Ramdhani then teamed up with his sister, Priyanna in the Mixed doubles where they gained a walkover in the Round of 32. However, the siblings lost their Round of 16 clash against Canada’s Ty Alexander Lindeman and Josephine Wu 21-11, 21-9.
In the Men’s Singles, Ramdhani defeated Mickhaile Williams of Jamaica 21-8, 21-15 to advance to the Round of 16. In that event where he faced Olympian and top ranked seed in the tournament, Brian Yang who is ranked 33rd in the world, Ramdhani lost 21-2, 21-8
Meanwhile, Akili Haynes bowed out of the Men’s Singles in the Round of 32 after losing to United States of America’s Jason Ma 21-12, 21-4.
Earlier, Priyanna Ramdhani was defeated by Orellana Ardon 21-13, 21-17 in the Women’s Singles Round of 64.
