Noel Anthony Fredericks, the Mainstay man who was last seen sometime between April 14 and April 20, in Region Seven, was found dead on Wednesday by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
A suspect, a miner who was the last person seen with Fredericks, 27, has since been taken into custody as police say he admitted to killing the man.
In a statement last night, the GPF said that the body of Fredericks, of Mainstay\ Whyaka Village, Essequibo Coast, was found in a decomposing state in a hole at Toroparu Backdam, where the suspect led them.
According the statement, police ranks on Wednesday went into the Toroparu Backdam where contact was made with a 29-year-old miner, of Nabacalis, East Coast Demerara (ECD), with whom Fredericks was last seen alive.
The man was then arrested and questioned. During the interrogation, the police say he related to the investigators that on April 15, he and Fredericks were drinking alcohol at a shop in the area. They then left and as he was towing Fredericks back to his (Fredericks’) camp, he claimed that the deceased asked him to have sex and he agreed. However, the miner said there was a subsequent argument and he choked Fredericks, while simultaneously covering his mouth and nose. As a result, Fredericks died.
The suspect added that he then tied the deceased hands behind his back and took his body to a hole that was already dug by an excavator and threw him inside and then buried him.
Police said the suspect led detectives to the hole.
Ranks said that the hole was filled with water but was eventually drained and the naked body of Fredericks was found in a decomposing state with his hands tied behind his back.
On Tuesday the GPF had reported the disappearance of Fredericks and noted that he went missing at Toroparu Backdam, Lower Puruni River, Region Seven.
It was noted that Fredericks had reportedly left his camp on April 14 at about 17:30 hrs and was last seen on April 15 at about 03:00hrs in the company of the suspect. They were said to be leaving a shop in an intoxicated state.
