Police on Wednesday evening arrested a 45-year-old Georgetown man and his uncle during what the force says was an intelligence-led operation conducted at an alleged drug block in Wismar, Linden.

According to a Guyana Police Force report, ranks from Regional Division #10 between 17:45 hrs and 18:15 hrs on the day mentioned, went to the Wismar location, where they conducted a search on the North East La Penitence man who was under surveillance. A search carried out on his person turned up $15,990, suspected to be proceeds from sale of narcotics, in his right-side pants pocket.

Ranks then canvassed the area and found a bulky plastic bag containing three transparent plastic bags with leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis, which amounted to 260 grammes.

The suspect denied ownership of the suspected drugs and further said that it belonged to his 58-year-old uncle of Train Line, Wismar, who at the time of the police operation was sitting in the suspected “drug yard.”

The uncle was also arrested.
