Fitness Express, Guyana’s leading supplement and gym equipment supplier, is the latest corporate sponsor to sign on to the Arrowhead League.
CEO of the Sheriff Street entity, Jamie McDonald on Wednesday jumped at the opportunity to be part of the “new initiative that seems promising” and presented a sponsorship cheque to the organisers of the event.
The five part series Arrowhead League which gets underway today at the National Track and Field Centre, is the local version of Diamond League which will reward the standout athletes.
Said McDonald who was the one that approached the organizers to become a sponsor, “I was reading about this new initiative in the papers and I called Treiston (Joseph), I thought this would be good to be a part of, this is what the athletes need.”
McDonald added “This is a new initiative that looks promising and we wanted to get involved. Over the next couple of years, I think this format will help to create better athletes.”
Meanwhile, Organiser of the event, Treiston Joseph, while thanking McDonald, stated, “It warms my heart to partner with the AAG and Fitness Express.
The significance of the event is to promote development of the sport on the local front, where athletes can have a competitive environment similar to the Diamond League.”
He added, “This league is to promote athletics and consistent competition for athletes to earn.”
Joseph further added that he hopes other corporate entities can follow in the footsteps of Fitness Express.
Athletes are scheduled to get into the blocks from 17:00hrs today and 16:00hrs tomorrow for the first two parts of the series.
