The Lady Jaguars will commence their maiden campaign in the 2022 Concacaf Women’s U17 Championship today against powerhouse and group E winner Mexico in a round of 16 match from 16:00hrs at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The team, which is now coached by Levi Braithwaite, comprises 20 members including eight overseas-born and/or based players.
They are Alexis Bayley, Alyssa Blake, Anostasha Coppin, Sue Edwards, Sidney Facey, Maliya Gangadin, Fayon Harry, Sandra Johnson, Karen Jupiter, Akasha Low-Koan, Sara Matthies, Ciara Sarius, Anika Sproxton, Odelli Staughn, Jalade Trim, Akeelah Vancooten, Nikita Wayne, Anaya Willabus, Latoya Williams and Nya Grace.
Guyana qualified for the tournament as the best second-place finisher during the Qualification Round in 2021. Guyana finished with a record of two wins and a loss. They defeated lowly Anguilla 1-0, and Turks and Caicos 6-0, but lost to powerhouse Honduras 0-6 while Mexico stormed into the elimination round, following a perfect 3-0 record. The Mexicans dispatched Nicaragua 10-0, Panama 7-0, and Trinidad and Tobago 10-0. They are the second-highest scoring team in the event, behind only defending champion the USA, who has recorded 38 conversions.
