Be more security conscious when building houses

Dear Editor,

Thursday I got a call from a businessman to check out a security system I set up a few years back at his home. The reason is that some thieves tried to break into his house and he wanted to see if there was any footage of the culprit’s faces. When I visited the house he showed me that the thieves removed the PVC ceiling and attempted to enter the house. Fortunately for him, the contractors placed the blocks to reach the roof/zinc, so the thieves couldn’t enter the house unless they had a hammer to break away the blocks and that would have alerted the neighbors.

Editor, many people complain of contractors doing shoddy work on their house if they are not around, and it’s almost impossible of getting compensated for inferior work by contractors. Many would leave huge spaces close to the roof which allows access into the house. Thieves are always on the lookout for easy access into houses and quite a few persons said their houses got broken into in that way. Some are lucky because the contractor went the extra mile and installed the blocks. This is the only way to prevent access that way and people should use wood ceilings on the outside of their house.

Sincerely,

Sahadeo Bates
