4R Lions registered successive victories over the weekend while Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) whipped Malteenoes Sports Club by 266 runs as the Georgetown Cricket Association/Ramchand Auto Spares/Survival Group of Compaines/Trophy Stall under-19 50-over tournament continued.
On Sunday, 4R Lions defeated GT XI by 136 runs after posting 243 for nine in 34 overs and containing GT XI to 107 all out in 25.4 overs.
West Indies under-19 pacer, Isai Thorne top scored with a 28-ball 69 which was highlighted by eight sixes and five fours at the Queen’s College Ground. He was supported by Rashad Gafoor who made 47 from 48 balls and Romeo Deonarain with 45 form 80 balls. Reyaz Latif picked up 4-54 while Stephon Sankar bagged 3-34.
In GT XI’s innings, Extras chalked up 35. Off the bat, Joshua Daniels made 30 from 40 balls before being caught and bowled by Deonarain. Only Gabriel Rookhum (14) could manage double figures apart from Daniels.
Rampetab Ramnauth grabbed 4-22 while Matthew Pottaya picked up 2-11.
The following day at the same venue 4R Lions brushed aside Malteenoes by 10 wickets. Malteenoes won the toss and opted to bat and were rolled over for 56 in 31 overs. 4R Lions then raced to 58 without loss from 5.2 overs with Sachin Balgobin hitting 28 not out from 18 balls and Deonarain making 22 not out from 14 balls.
In Malteenoes’ innings, Munesh Sookdeo rocked the batting order to collect 5-9. Michael Sharma top scored with 15.
Meanwhile at the Queen’s College on Sunday, Malteenoes won the toss and inserted DCC who posted 332 for five in 45 overs while playing with eight players but that didn’t affect the outcome as Malteenoes were rolled over for 66 in 24.2 overs. Jaden Campbell (42) and Gustavus Hutson (29) added 83 for the opening partnership but DCC slipped to 85 for three before Ezekiel Wilson hammered eight sixes and 11 fours during an impressive top score of 148 from 123 balls.
Wilson added 180 for the fourth wicket with Jayden Dowlin who made a 54-ball 42, laced with four boundaries before sharing a 40-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Wavell Allen who was left on 35 not out from 21 balls. Extras added 34 towards the target. Jonathan Mentore was the principal wicket taker with 3-71 while Shane Prince had 1-64.
Malteenoes’ innings was routed by Inderjeet Nanan who bagged 5-12 and Hutson who returned to pick up 2-19. Allen and Campbell picked up a wicket each.
Extras top scored with 20 while Lomar Seecharan (15), Ravell Nedd (12) and Sharma (10) were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
