Family members of Suresh Dyal of Maria’s Lodge in Region Two are in a state of shock at the news of the man’s sudden death.
The decomposed body of Dyal, also known as ‘Putto’, was discovered on Monday evening bearing gunshot wounds, by two men at Mashabo backdam in Region Two. The body was discovered shirtless at the time.
He left to hunt on Thursday last and was expected to return on Monday. According to his mother, Chandra Dyal, she received a call on Monday afternoon informing that her son had been shot.
She explained that Dyal would usually hunt with two other persons at Mashabo. Her son would also usually go fishing, hunting and also would bring out wood.
“My son would usually leave us to go to the backdam; it is something he do. He loves hunting [and] he does go and come back. We didn’t know that would be his last trip,” the mother said
The mother of six recounted that her son left with his tractor and trailer along with his licensed firearm to go to hunt. She said that she knew something was amiss when calls to his phone went unanswered.
“I know that he does go but he don’t spend so long so I keep calling. My son is a humble guy, he don’t fight or curse with anyone, he does farming for a living; he and his brother do rice field work.”
She also mentioned that she is receiving conflicting reports surrounding her son’s death. The mother said that the two people are claiming that they heard gunshot sounds and thought to themselves that he had found an animal. She said that when they checked they discovered him.
“We want justice – something not right and adding up, I want this to be investigated” the tearful mother said.
According to one of his cousins who ventured to the backdam to locate his body “We gone in Monday afternoon and it took us more than 10 hours to actually find his body. When we locate the body it was decomposed, gunshot wounds were seen and it appeared like whoever shot he lash him in his head.”
The decomposed body was transported to the Suddie Public Hospital on Tuesday to be officially pronounced dead. It was subsequently transferred to the Suddie Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem examination. His firearm was taken by the police.
Investigations are ongoing and so far no suspect has been detained.
