(CMC) – Guyana internationals Reiss Greenidge and Kai McKenzie Lyle are among a number of UK based players who will be on the move this summer after being released by their clubs.
Aaron Pierre, a 29-year-old centre-back who plays for Grenada’s Spice Boyz, will also be looking for a new club after his three year contract with League One Shrewsbury Town was not renewed. Pierre has scored seven goals in 81 appearances for the club.
Greenidge, a 25-year-old defender who made his debut for the Jaguars last year, returned to England after spells in Europe to join Bolton Wanderers in August 2020.
Bolton went on to win promotion out of League Two at the end of the 2020-21 season. He joined National League side Barnet on a season long deal this term with the fifth-tier outfit reportedly looking to make it a permanent move.
Lyle, a 24-year-old 6ft 5in goalkeeper, currently on loan at sixtier National League South side Chelmsford City, is being released after two seasons by League One club Cambridge United. He made his debut for Guyana in 2016.
While Pierre will be saying goodbye to Shrewsbury, the club has agreed to a new contract with 33-year-old midfielder Elliott Bennett, who is eligible to play for Jamaica through his paternal grandparents. He joined the club on a one-year deal last June.
“Elliott is a fantastic character not just in and around the dressing room, he is also an excellent professional when he crosses the white line as well. He gives everything and has shown incredible fitness levels for his age and thoroughly deserves another year,” Shrewsbury boss Steve Cotterill said.
Another player of Jamaican descent, Nathan Delfouneso, a 31-year-old striker, will join Greenidge in leaving Bolton at the end of the season.
