Family members and friends of former Queen’s College student, Sanjay Bhupan were plunged into a state of shock following his sudden death on Friday.
Bhupan was 25. Details surrounding his death remain sketchy at this time.
As the news of Bhupan’s death spread, relatives and friends expressed their shock and disbelief on social media site, Facebook.
Hundreds of posts were made on Bhupan’s Facebook page throughout Friday night and yesterday. Many shared their last conversations with him.
Bhupan was well-known for the jokes he shared on Facebook through his random posts. He was described as a jovial individual who impacted the lives of many.
One of the initial posts of Bhupan death was made by Ato Ramesh.
“Today we lost our best friend, Sanjay Bhupan. We all loved him but at this time we ask that you respect his family by allowing us the opportunity to process this. Thank you all for understanding”, the post read.
Stephen Robertson related how Bhupan was an inspiration to him during his battle with cancer. “To those close with Sanjay, you probably don’t know me. But he hit me up on here shortly after I was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. He was a source of inspiration to keep fighting. One of the few positive motivators I had. He cared more about my wellbeing than some of my own family. Thanks in part to his support, I was able to keep fighting and beat the cancer. I consider him to be a friend. The fact that he’s gone feels unreal, and the world is worse off without him. I regret the fact that I was never able to meet him in person. With your permission, I’d like to share some screenshots of the things he said that kept me going. Rest in peace Sanjay. You were truly an amazing person,” Robertson posted.
In another post, Nikhil Sankar said “I was shocked of the news of Sanjay Bhupan’s passing. We never spoke in QC but we had this interaction during a dark period of mine. Always a bright force, overflowing with good energy. He will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.”
A large amount of persons expressed that even though they never met Bhupan in person or knew him, his death took a toll of them.
“I did not know Sanjay Bhupan personally, I only knew of him from the laugher and joy he’d spread on here. He was such a light and genuine soul- I will definitely miss seeing his name pop up,” a post from Tiffani Bonner read.
Expressing similar sentiments was Joel Simpson who said “I never met Sanjay Bhupan in person but we’ve been Facebook friends since 2019. When a mutual friend told me last night that he died, it hit me like a ton of bricks. This morning I was looking back at some of our conversations on Fb messenger and WhatsApp and realized how very personal they were. Sanjay was more than just the meme boss and funny guy we all came to love on FB. He had a heart of gold and cared deeply for his family, friends and people he didn’t even know. I will miss him immensely.”
The Queen’s College Old Students’ Association said it was shocked and saddened at the passing of Bhupan.
“Sanjay, a member of B (Raleigh) House attended Queen’s College from 2010 to 2015 and was known for his vibrant and unique personality which heavily impacted the lives of countless members of the Queen’s College Family”, the association said.
