Guyana’s U-19 table tennis team lost a golden opportunity to qualify for the Pan Am games when they were beaten by Trinidad and Tobago Saturday as the Caribbean Youth Championships for U19 and U15 players continued in the Dominican Republic.
Needing to win to join the last four which would have guaranteed them automatic qualification, the Guyanese found Trinidad’s top player Derron Douglas too much to handle and bowed out 1-3.
Douglas defeated Niran Bissu 15-13, 12-10, 8-11 and 11-7 and Jonathan Van Lange 11-3, 10-12, 11-8 and 11-6 while Samuel Humphreys beat Krystian Sahadeo 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 4-11 and 11-7 to seal the win.
