Jessica Callender with the maximum four points after four rounds, is the sole leader of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) women’s qualifying tournament for the national championships.
Three players Pooja Lam, Anaya Lall and Nellisha Johnson are on three points in the tournament which is being held at the Providence National Stadium to determine the challengers for the defending champion Sasha Shariff’s title.
Four players, Waveney Johnson, Adia Alphonso, Mahlia Rajkumar and Angel Rahim are on two points and three more players Alexia Mc Adam, Elizabeth Mc Rae and Oliver Gabrielle are on one point.
Callender defeated Anaya Lall, Pooja Lam and Waveney Johnson and got a bye which earned her one additional point.
In the third round, the 14-year-old Lam faced Callender who had the black pieces but Lam blundered a piece and was forced to resign.
The tournament continues this weekend.
