Guyana’s Colin Wong reached the quarterfinals of the boys U15 division at the 2022 Caribbean Youth U19 and U15 championships in the Dominican Republic before bowing out yesterday.
Wong reached the last eight at the expense of Jamaica’s Jayden Ebanks whom he thrashed 17-15, 11-3, 11-8, 11-2 yesterday morning.
He however went down to Yadier Lopez of Puerto Rico approximately one hour later losing 5-11, 6-11, 3-11, 3-11.
Lopez will play Dariel Del Rosario of the Dominican Republic in today’s semi final.
The other semi final is an all Puerto Rico affair between Eliam Davila and Sebastien Cruz Ruiz.
The U19 category is also at the semi-final stage and will see Puerto Rico’s Oscar Birrell against Trinidad’s Derron Douglas and Jabadiel Torres and Derek Valentin in another all Puerto Rico affair.
Guyana’s U19 players Jonathan Van Lange, Krystian Sahadeo and Niran Bissu also lost their round of 16 matches yesterday.
Van Lange lost to Puerto Rico’s Jose Nieves, 8-11, 11-13, 11-13, 8-11, Bissu lost to Yael Mendoza of the Dominiocan Republic 11-13, 11-3, 10-12, 6-11, 14-12, 12-14 and Sahadeo lost to Cristopher Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic 9-11, 11-8, 3-11,7-11,7-11.
