Dear Editor,
I write on behalf of several poor families who have not yet received public assistance in my Region # 2 district for this year. Their predicament is being compounded further with the fourth month of the year coming to an end with no indication as to when payment would be made. The aggrieved families stated that whenever enquiries were made at the Anna Regina Office they were advised to hold on.
But they questioned for how long more would they be able to do so with spending taking place without any benefits and it was really hard on them. One of the victims mentioned that they were advised not to check at the office anymore as the money would “cut out” while pointing out that they were not being given credit facilities at shops anymore.
It was mentioned that not all of the children who are eligible stand to benefit but sometimes only two out of six but at the same time all of them have to eat and wear and attend school. So the pressure is on the elderly ones who have to take care of them. In my humble opinion better needs to be done.
Sincerely,
Baliram Persaud
