A family is now mourning the loss of their son who died in an accident yesterday along the Bushy Park Public Road at Mahaicony on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Eshwar Arjune, 25, a farmer of Lot 2 Public Road, Quakers Hall, ECD.
According to the police, the accident took place at about 7.40 am yesterday on the Bushy Park public road and involved three vehicles.
The vehicles involved were, motorcar PCC 5219, owned by Seepersaud Arjune and driven by the now deceased, motorcar HD 2859 driven by 26-year-old Kevin Bagot, and a SUV PJJ 8723 which is owned by Deodat Ramanand but was being driven by 19-year-old Jhatan Sukhlal.
Police enquiries disclosed that Arjune was proceeding east, along the Bushy Park Public Road, while the SUV PJJ 8723 was proceeding in the same direction behind Arjune.
The SUV hit the rear of the vehicle that Arjune was driving, causing him to lose control and as a result, he ended up on the southern side of the road. In the process, Arjune collided with motorcar HD 2859, which was proceeding west along the southern side of the road.
As a result of the accident, Bagot and his reputed wife, as well as Arjune, suffered injuries.
They were picked up and transported to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where Arjune was pronounced dead on arrival. Bagot and his reputed wife were admitted and are said to be in an unconscious state.
A Breathalyzer test was later conducted on the 19-year-old driver of the SUV, no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
The teen is currently in custody assisting with investigation.
Arjune’s brother, Steve Arjune, told Stabroek News yesterday, that his brother was heading to Mahaicony to run an errand.
Sometime later that morning, they received a message stating that his brother had been involved in an accident.
“We just get a message this morning and what we heard is that my brother was heading to Mahaicony and there was a vehicle in front of him, so he slowed up, but the vehicle behind of him didn’t stop or something, and so the vehicle behind him collided with his back and that cause him to like turn side way on the road and he [Arjune] collide with the taxi that was coming from Berbice.”
He said that when he arrived on the scene, his brother and the injured persons had already been taken to hospital.
Steve noted Arjune sustained a severe head injury.
Arjune was the youngest of his parents’ children and was described as a very helpful and easy going person.
