As rain washed out the final day’s play in the last Guyana Harpy Eagles practice match, head coach, Esuan Crandon says he is happy with the progress made from the two matches.
Rain ended the game with Johnson XI side needing another 93 runs after closing Wednesday on 171 for eight. “I thought it was a decent outing, over the three days we saw some very good impressive fast bowling, the spinners held their own and so on, so I’m pretty much happy with the progress we would have made from the two games,” Crandon told this publication.
Demetri Cameron bagged a match haul of 4-101, Joshua Jones snatched 3-35 while Keemo Paul took 3-37 but the pick of the pacers was Ronsford Beaton who returned 8-101. For the spinners, Junior Sinclair led the way with 6-93.
Crandon related, “It’s not too bad, I was expecting a little bit more from the batters, especially those in the squad. Good to see ‘Tage’ [Tagenarine Chanderpaul] go on to score a big hundred and some of the guys scoring half centuries so we’ll take that, not much more we can do at this time apart from see how best we can start to get our mind in tune with what to expect in Trinidad, when it comes our way, how we want to play individually and as a team, try to do the good things and execute our plans.”
Chanderpaul scored 163 from 278 balls. His innings featured 21 fours and a six. Anthony Bramble registered 77, Tevin Imlach chalked up 55, and Vishaul Singh made 50, while Kemol Savory was dismissed on 49.
Crandon reasoned that he was contented with the efforts of the guys outside of the Guyana squad and commended them, especially from a bowling perspective.
Overall, he said, “the effort, energy and intensity from those guys, they were really hungry to bowl out the other side, all I wanted to see was another youngster or two stood out there and score another hundred. Nevertheless, Savory batted really well, Nandu got a good start but didn’t carry on.”
Harpy Eagles, who are fourth on the Championship table will head to Trinidad on Sunday where they will play round three against Barbados Pride from May 18. In Round Four, the former champions will battle Jamaica Scorpions before closing off the tournament against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
