Soesdyke-Linden Highway accident victim identified

The victim of a fatal Friday morning accident which occurred in the vicinity of Splashmins Resort along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway has been identified as Lorenzo Sampson of Roxanne Burnham Gardens.

Police in updated statement yesterday said Sampson, 30, of Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown, was positively identified by his mother Lorraine Brower.

Brower while declining to speak with this newspaper yesterday stated that the facts reported in sections of media were inaccurate. She did not wish to correct any of the inaccuracies reported and requested that she be allowed to grieve in peace.

According to the police, at around 5.30 am, the accident involved Sampson and motor lorry GAB 1668 owned by 23-year-old Mark Forrester and driven at the time by Orael Davis, 28, of Mackenzie, Linden.

Enquiries revealed that the lorry was proceeding north, along the western side of the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, when the man who was said to be sitting on a tyre on the western side of the road, suddenly ran on to the road and into the path of the lorry.

The driver of the vehicle applied brakes but was unable to avoid hitting the man. He was picked up in an unconscious state by the police and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A Breathalyzer test was later conducted on the driver of the motor lorry but no trace of alcohol was found in his system.

The driver is said to be in custody assisting with the investigation.
