Five Guyana Prison Service officers recently underwent training in the U.S. to learn best practices in responding to prison riots.
A statement on the US Embassy website said that the programme was funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, part of the U.S. government’s effort to enhance citizen security through the professionalization of Guyanese law enforcement and criminal justice systems.
“We were pleased to read that the Senior Superintendent of Prisons (ag,), Deoraj Gyandat said the Mock Prison Riot Training granted him and his colleagues the know-how about the newest non-lethal technologies, tactics, and best practices within prison settings”, the statement said.
