The Ministry of Education (MoE) on Friday advised all untrained teachers in the system to immediately enroll at the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE).
The ministry said that failure to enroll as advised “may result in the Ministry’s inability to continue the employment of the persons so failing”.
A Memorandum from Chief Education Officer, Dr Marcel Hutson to regional education officers from regions 1 to 10 and the Principal Education Officer for Georgetown said that it should be noted that the criterion requiring the employment of in-service teachers for one year before entering the CPCE has been withdrawn.
“Please note that these measures are in keeping with the objective of the MoE to have all teachers trained”, the memorandum said. It added that this approach is necessary to attain the mandate of the ministry’s education sector plan (2021-2025) to improve accountability and efficiency in the classroom, improve performance at all levels and reduce inequities in the classroom.
