It’s been six years since Ronsford Beaton played first-class cricket. Now, back with rejuvenated vigor, his only focus is on taking wickets.
The 29-year-old pacer, who is returning from a remedied bowling action, is back with a bang.
He took a five-wicket haul in the final practice match before the Guyana Harpy Eagles left local shores yesterday, hitting his countrymen with pace, bounce and swing.
Speaking to this publication prior to departure, the Essequibian, who was born in Monstserrat said, “It’s a joyful feeling to be back playing the game I love…being on the sidelines for so many years has been real tough on me…and my family to an extent…but I’m happy to be back play among my fellow teammates.”
‘Crow’ as he is commonly referred to by his friends, has gotten the support from his squad members and head coach, Esuan Crandon, who pointed out that Beaton’s inclusion is a good move with him bowling well in all the practice matches so far.
“Training has been great, hard, but great. We all know fast bowling is a lot of work and it tells a lot on your body so I’ve been spending a fair amount of time in the gym getting the body strong and while training I’ve been doing a lot of bowling even at home, when I finish sessions with the coaches, so I can say my presentation is good leading into the last three rounds,” Beaton revealed.
The out-of-favour West Indies seamer affirmed that his goals were first to make the squad and then break into the playing XI but the only thing on his mind is to get wickets for his country.
“To be honest, I am focused on getting wickets. I know getting wickets will benefit the team and if I can do my best and get wickets, I know my bowling partners will back me up so we give our batsmen the best chance to do their stuff and if all of that goes well, we will give ourselves the best chance to win matches and regain the championships,” he said.
Beaton has played 33 first-class matches and has taken 61 wickets at an average of 33 and a best match haul of 7-71.
