Defending champions Swag Entertainment commenced its dynasty in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Linden Championship, downing Amazings 2-0 to retain their title for the second consecutive year on Saturday at the Christianburg hard court.
Kendolph Lewis was the difference on the wet night, as he bagged a brace in front of a large gathering. Lewis redirected a left sided pass into the roof of the net in the 10th minute to give his side the lead. He would then make his presence felt once more in the 14th minute, slotting into the empty net, after an initial left sided shot rolled into his awaiting path.
Due to the win, Swag Entertainment received the championship trophy and $300,000. They also sealed their berth as the zone’s automatic representative in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ National Championship.
The losera walked away with $200,000 and the runners up trophy. In the third-place playoff, previous two-time champion Silver Bullets, edged DC Ballers 4-3 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1.
Donovan Francis handed Silver Bullets the lead in the third minute only for Jamal Allicock to level proceedings in the 12th minute. With the result, Silver Bullets collected $100,000 and the respective trophy while DC Ballers pocketed $70,000 and the respective accolade.
In the earlier semifinal round, Swag Entertainment downed Silver Bullets 5-1, while Amazings squeaked past DC Ballers 1-0.
