The body of an Ulverston, Corentyne man who went missing after the boat he was in capsized on Saturday in the Canje Creek was discovered yesterday.
Dead is Kevin France, 30, of Ulverston Village, Corentyne.
Stabroek News was told that France’s body was seen floating yesterday morning around 10 am in the Canje Creek, a short distance away from where the boat capsized.
The man’s body was eventually removed and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead after which it was taken to the Bailey’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A police source yesterday told this newspaper that no mark of violence was noticed on the deceased’s body.
On Saturday, Kenton Tyndall also known as ‘Fine Man’, 35, of Lot 8 Liverpool Village, Corentyne; Manley Grant, 52, of Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice; Paul Tyndall, 28, a police officer attached to the Mahaica Police Station and of Lot 2 Manchester Village, Corentyne; Cecil Chisholm, 62, of Lot 10 Ulverston Village, Corentyne; and France boarded a 14-feet boat which was being operated by Tyndall en route to the Upper Canje Creek to make checks on cattle belonging to a person known to them.
However, they reported to police that they were in the Canje Creek aback of New Forest, East Canje Berbice, when the swells from two boats ahead of them resulted in their boat capsizing.
Stabroek News was told that the men said that they swam to a nearby shore along the New Forest road but then discovered that France was missing and immediately launched a search for him.
After they were unable to find the man they went to the Reliance Police Station and filed a report.
