Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Tigers, and Junior Vets won the Women’s, and Men’s Divisional titles in the Bounty/Antonio’s Grill Hockey Championship at the National Stadium, Providence.
GCC Tigers defeated GCC Spartans 2-1 in a penalty shootout after regulation time ended 2-2. Princessa Wilkie and Samantha Fernandes converted from the penalty mark, while Madison Fernandes scored for the eventual loser. Prior to the aforementioned end, Ameriah Sahadeo and Madison Singh recorded individual efforts to give Spartans the initial 2-0 lead, only for conversions from Gabriella Xavier, and Sandy Roopnarine to level proceedings. In the Men’s Division, GCC Junior Vets defeated Hikers 2-0 on penalties following a 0-0 score at the end of regulation time. Devin Hooper, and Alan Fernandes scored for Junior Vets from the distance, as their teammate, goalkeeper Michael Xavier, denied both Aroydy Branford and Jamarj Assanah of Hikers.
Six women’s teams, and eight men’s sides participated in the tournament, which commenced the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) season.
