Thirty-nine-year-old Sharon Hoppie of Lot 32, Hadfield Street, Lodge, Georgetown, was stabbed in the wee hours of yesterday by her ex-boyfriend.
The incident took place at the woman’s address at about 03:30 hrs.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement reported that Hoppie and the 36-year-old man shared a relationship which ended about two months ago, but he was known to still visit from time to time.
The woman however started a new relationship.
Investigators said that at about 00:30 hrs, the accused visited Hoppie where he met the other male, who then left.
As such, Hoppie was left in the house with her ex-boyfriend where they eventually got into an argument. Since it was late, she allowed him to stay the night at her home.
The woman then retired to bed at about 02:00 hrs, leaving the suspect in her house.
According to police, at about 03:30 hrs, the man armed himself with a knife, went into Hoppie’s unlocked room and stood over her.
Hoppie said she tried to fight the man off but he managed to stab her to the left side of her neck and the right side of her abdomen.
The accused then fled.
An alarm was raised and Hoppie was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by a neighbour where she was treated and admitted. Her condition is listed as stable.
The police informed that the matter was reported at about 04:20 hrs yesterday morning and officers attended the victim’s residence.
Checks were made for the accused but he was not found.
Further searches and investigations are ongoing.
