Gov’t advertises for lottery products provider

The Government of Guyana has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for prospective companies desirous of providing lottery products and services to provide a financial projection for five years showing the estimated revenue government will receive from the proceeds, among a number of other requirements.

Hezbollah chief Nasrallah acknowledges loss of Lebanon parliamentary majority

BEIRUT,  (Reuters) – The leader of Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah acknowledged his party and its allies had lost their parliamentary majority in elections but said no single group had taken it, in his first televised speech since Sunday’s election “Unlike the situation in parliament in 2018, no political group can claim a majority,” he said.

Ensuring access to essential services for survivors of gender based violence

By Alison Drayton Director and Representative, Sub-regional Office for the Caribbean, United Nations Population Fund A cursory glance at newspaper headlines across the Caribbean paints a grim picture of the impact of gender based violence (GBV) in the region, particularly violence against women and girls (VAWG): ‘Woman hacked to death at home…’, ‘Cop convicted of raping teenager…,’ ‘Man charged with raping daughter’… ‘St James-based pastor charged with the rape of a teenage girl’… ‘Mother, step-father charged with inciting 13 year old daughter to have sex’…  These are headlines that appeared in newspapers in Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago recently and there are many other similar media reports all over the Caribbean.

It’s just politics

Perhaps the most positive outcome of last November’s UN climate conference in Glasgow, Scotland was the move by France, Ireland, Sweden, Wales and Quebec to join the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA), which had been established by Denmark and Costa Rica in September 2021, just two months prior to the confab.
