A 19-year-old was yesterday released on $40,000 bail after she was allegedly found with 36 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Shaniya Godette was arraigned at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Crystal Lambert where the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking was read to her.
Godette pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $40,000.
The matter was adjourned until June 10.
According to police, the teen was nabbed on Wednesday between 20:00hrs and 20:30hrs, at the Bartica Stelling, where ranks from the Bartica Police Station were conducting searches on passengers who were coming from Parika.
As a result, a search was conducted on Godette and in her purse was a parcel made of transparent cling wrap, which contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be that of cannabis.
She was then told of the offence, cautioned, and arrested. The police said that the teen admitted, and indicated that the cannabis was for her personal use.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in her presence and amounted to 36 grams.
