Tucville teen shot by police during chase

A 17-year-old boy of Tucville Squatting Area, Georgetown was shot on Thursday by a rank of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) during a chase.

According to the police, two ranks who are attached to the Alberttown Police Station were on mobile patrol on a motorcycle at about 8.45 pm on  Oronoque Street, Queenstown when they observed four suspicious looking males.

Two were on a red motorcycle while the other two were on a black motorcycle.

Upon seeing the ranks, the police said that the four males immediately turned around and started to proceed south on Oronoque Street.

The police said that the ranks then gave chase during which the pillion rider on the red motorcycle pointed an object towards the ranks and subsequently an explosion, suspected to be a gunshot, was heard.

As a result, one of the police ranks who was armed with a 9mm pistol, discharged a single round in the teen’s direction.

Only the two teens on the black motorcycle were apprehended: the wounded 17-year-old and a 15-year-old.

A search was conducted on the teens, and a suspected air-gun was found in the possession of the 17-year-old. A gunshot wound was also seen on the teen’s right foot.

He was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention.

The 15-year-old is said to be in police custody assisting with further investigations.
