Former Guyana youth all-rounder, Richie Looknauth, is all set tomake his mark in North America as he gears up for the New York National Cricket League.

The off-spinner will leave Guyana at the end of the month and represent Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club USA until mid-October.

When Stabroek Sport caught up with Looknauth in the nets of his local club, Everest Cricket Club, after a net session he explained, “It’s a great opportunity to go in the USA to play cricket. I been putting in the hard work over the years so I am confident of going over and doing well.”

He noted, “it’s a new challenge playing on different surfaces and conditions but I’m looking forward to it and also just to do well so when I come back home it can take me one step closer to making the Guyana senior team because that’s the number one goal.”

Looknauth has had a good go in his preparation as he featured in the Guyana Harpy Eagles practice matches where he gave a good account of himself.

“I’ve been working on my bowling trying to spin the ball more and adding some variation. I’ve also been talking to guys like [Gudakesh] Motie, [Veerasammy] Permaul and Antony Adams for some advice on bowling and what I can add into my bowling so must thank them for sharing their knowledge with me.”

He added, “My batting is coming along good, been making runs for my club over the past three years so is just about continue doing the simple things right and spending time at the wicket.”

The West Demerara all-rounder indicated that he is keen to end up as the leading wicket taker in the tournament and be among the top five run getters.
