Berbice women solidified their dominance in female cricket after adding the Guyana Cricket Board senior female inter-county title to the T20 title they won recently following a seven-wicket win over Demerara women yesterday.
Berbice played undefeated in the competition and capped off a superb tournament at Providence yesterday where they asked Demerara to bat and reduced them to 96 for nine in 26.2 overs before reaching their revised target of 93 for the loss of two in 12.3 overs.
Demerara got off to a solid start with Laushana Toussaint top scoring with 37 not out from 76 balls after carving six boundaries. She added 56 for the opening wicket with Mandy Mangru who made 30 from 42 balls, highlighted by five boundaries before falling to Plaffina Millington (1-17).
Demerara would then collapse, losing their next eight wickets for 39 runs. Sheneta Grimmond bagged 3-6 while Ashmini Munisar picked up 1-16 and was instrumental in two run outs. Shabika Gajnabi returned 2-21.
In the chase, Gajnabi played a captain’s knock to end on 44 not out from 34 balls. She struck eight boundaries and added 45 for the second wicket with Kentana Mentore who made 19 from 16 balls before being trapped leg before wicket to Cherry Ann Fraser (2-32).
Fraser also removed Shemaine Campbelle for two. Grimmond returned to contribute an important cameo of 22 from 11 balls before being run out by Fraser.
Mentore ended as the leading run getter with 194 runs and was trailed by her Berbice teammates, Gajnabi (173 runs) and Grimmond (147 runs).
