APNU city councillor Heston Bostwick on Monday denied a claim that he granted permission for the construction of a vending place.
Bostwick issued the denial amidst a row with Mayor Ubraj Narine at the council’s statutory meeting, which was held at the Kitty Market.
The heated row stemmed from a proposal made by Bostwick for the processing of a specific application to be sped up. The Mayor noted that a young woman had visited his office about the very application and he had directed her to go back to the person who sent her.
Narine said the application must go through the regular process and Town Clerk Candace Nelson supported the Mayor’s position. Nelson added that the individual stated that permission was granted by councillor Bostwick for the commencement of construction.
However, Bostwick then said that he was in no position to give permission to anyone for construction of vending places. The Councillor and Mayor then engaged in an argument.
Bostwick requested to leave the meeting but the Mayor denied the request, saying “I didn’t ask you to leave. The meeting is not over Councillor.”
The other councillors who were a part of the meeting had different reactions to the argument. One murmured, “this thing is going on a long time now,” while others laughed.
Nelson then suggested that a meeting be held with the individual, the Councillor and the Mayor for further clarifications.
