Mahendra Boodhoo was elected president of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) at its Annual General Meeting on Monday at the GT Motorsport Hall, Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
Boodhoo and his slate were elected unopposed after incumbent Rameez Mohamed opted not to seek another term. The other members of the executive are: Vice-President, Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin; Secretary, Azim Jaffar; Treasurer, Chetram Singh; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Azad Hassan; Club Captain, Rameez Mohamed; Technical Director, Joel Evans; and Committee Members, Mark Vieira, Gavin Guyadin, Roshan Ali, and John Chin.
In his remarks following his election to office, Boodhoo remarked, “Firstly, I want to thank you all for this opportunity. This new executive hopes to ensure that we focus on growing local motorsport in all aspects, be it bikes, cars, karting etc.”
He noted, “We are looking forward to your support and your voices,” adding, “if you have ideas then we are here to listen to them and once they come with possible solutions then we will obviously look at them. Once they are structured and put on the record then we will deal with them.”
The newly-minted president also disclosed that the new executive intends to address several pertinent concerns of its membership including the current state of the track at the South Dakota circuit located at Timehri, East Bank Demerara.
“During this week, the new executive will take a trip to the track to firstly examine what we are working with and then move forward. I know a lot of you raised complaints with some sections of the track and we will see how best we can sort that.”
The financial statement of the previous year was also adopted, while Seebarran was retained as auditor.
