Cream of nation’s athletes expected at National Track and Field Centre this weekend

The cream of the nation’s athletes will be on show this weekend at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, West Coast Demerara, competing for lucrative prizes in the Kenrick Smith Relays and the Overseas Based Sports Association Track and Field Classic.

First on Saturday, the fourth edition of the relay event will get off to a fast start at noon with athletes from U-13 to the open, competing for bragging rights, trophies and cash incentives.

In excess of 16 events are scheduled to be held for the fixture which will see the coveted Rayfield ‘Pepe’ Beaton Trophy going to the best relay outfit. All entries are free.

Next on Sunday, the athletes will turn their attention to individual events during the Classic as the athletes will compete in the blue ribbon sprint races, the 400m, 800m, javelin, long jump and the discus events.

Action starts at 09:00hrs and admission is listed at $200 for minors and $300 for adults. The National Sports Commission and Banks DIH Limited are the major sponsors of the meet.

Both meets are collaborative efforts involving the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG).
