I refer to the letter by a group of concerned citizens of Guyana published in your edition of 25th May, 2022.
I support and join them in calling for Guyana to reject these WHO amendments. Apparently there is a 6-month grace period (to November 2022) for rejections of the amendments to be officially filed. Any nation not doing so within this time frame, will be legally bound by them.
Countries must be able to maintain their sovereign rights to make decisions on public health. If the proposed amendments are adopted, the WHO and its Director General will be empowered to declare public health emergencies without the consent of those member states and effectively, restrict health related rights and freedoms of the public.
It is therefore imperative that Guyana reject these totalitarian amendments.
