FIFA has officially communicated to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), its intention to undertake the revision of its statutes, with the objective of ensuring compliance with the mandatory requirements contained in the edicts and regulations of the world body and CONCACAF.
This was disclosed by an official correspondence from the federation. A joint FIFA/CONCACAF delegation is scheduled to visit Guyana in the coming weeks to commence and administer the process, a procedure which is expected to feature consultations with members of the GFF and other football stakeholders. The GFF will also appoint a ‘Statutes Revision Committee’ to participate in the process.
Kenny Jean-Marie, Chief Member Associations Officer of FIFA in a letter dated May 3rd to the GFF, stated, “In this context, we wish to underline that we see a need to continue with the revision of the GFF statutes. One of FIFA ́s primary objectives is that all its member associations must comply with their obligations as provided for in the FIFA Statutes. In this respect, GFF as a member of FIFA must ensure that its statutes fully comply with the mandatory requirements contained in the Statutes and regulations of FIFA and Concacaf.”
He added, “Furthermore, FIFA and Concacaf encourage GFF to adopt additional principles of good governance and best practices in their statutes and regulations. In addition, FIFA expects that GFF adopts new statutes and electoral code which are in line with the requirements of FIFA and Concacaf within the third quarter of 2022. To this end, FIFA and Concacaf will provide the necessary support to GFF throughout the revision process so that it proceeds in the best conditions. Further details will follow of a joint FIFA/Concacaf mission that will take place this summer in due course.”
Meanwhile, Howard McIntosh, Head of One Concacaf and Caribbean Special Projects, said, “FIFA and Concacaf is keen on ensuring that the Governance Structures of the Concacaf Member Associations are fully aligned with the Statutes of the Governing bodies. We have successfully revised and updated the statues of several Member Associations in recent months and look forward to working with the GFF and its members in the coming weeks.”
