The Demerara Distillers Limited-sponsored Pepsi/Michael Parris U-16 and Juniors Championships is set to return on Sunday, June 5, at the National Gymnasium.
The competition is held by the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) in honour of the country’s first and only Olympic medallist. Parris won bronze at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.
The tournament was last held on May 1 at the Gymnasium.
At that event, Forgotten Youth Foundation product, Malachi Greenidge, was a cut above his peers in the 47- 49kg category when he forced the referee to stop the bout against Jaydon King in the first round.
In addition, Berbice Jammers walked away with the Best Gym title, following the performances of Curtis McDonald, Travis Sancho, Aubrey Austin, Javar Jones, and Marcus Humphrey.
With the Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors tournament set for August, GBA president Steve Ninvalle had promised that along with the help of DDL, under their Pepsi brand, the tournament will be a regular feature since it plays an important part in identifying Guyana’s representatives for the prestigious championship.
