Berbice continued their domination of women’s cricket by clinching the Guyana Cricket Board’s female under-19 inter-county title yesterday with a convincing 95-run win over Demerara at the Everest Cricket Club.
Berbice won the toss and elected to bat first. They piled up 182 for one in their 20-over quota. Demerara, in reply were bowled out for 87 in 18.1 overs.
Realeanna Grimmond starred with the bat and struck an eye-catching 91 not out from just 63 balls. She smacked 13 fours and two sixes during her onslaught while sharing in a 107-run opening stand with Tia Isaacs who made 31 from 48 balls. Isaacs stroked four boundaries before she was caught by Naomi Barkoye off the bowling of her sister, Ciana.
Ashmini Munisar continued her superb form with an 18-ball 30 not out that featured three fours and one six. Extras also accounted for 30 runs.
Darshanie Subramani was the pick of the Berbice bowling attack, returning 3-3 while Trisha Hardat and Grimmond bagged two wickets each for nine and 10 runs respectively. Crystal Durant, Niveena Ramnauth and Tenecia Solomon picked up one wicket each.
Extras chalked up the bulk of Demerara’s total with 44 while Naomi Barkoye with 16 not out and Melanie Dover with 10, were the only two batters to reach double figures.
Overall, Grimmond was the most prolific batter, scoring 120 runs in two innings while Munisar piled up 72 and Naiomi Barkoye, 44. Barkoye, Subramanie, Ramnauth and Munisar all ended with three wickets in the tournament. The successful Berbice team was coached by Delbert Hicks and managed by Tremayne Smartt.
President of the Berbice Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster and the executives have already congratulated the group for their success and noted that they continue to make the county proud.
